Set #1000!

We wanted to do something special for CC in appreciation of all his forum efforts (particularly the spectacular Brides in 'Hose thread).

Couldn't shoot here in time (my camera is back though!) but I am proud to say this was shot by the great Viv Thomas and weighs in as the biggest photo set to-date by several measures.

And I know I've mentioned this before but it was the stunning Nicole (http://www.fets.com/set.php?what=4) that brought me here.. (from a Usenet posting all those many years ago!) (hrm, just noticed no Zip icons on the older sets.. is that supposed to be there?) I subscribed to the site shortly after I got one of the first cable modems in the neighborhood (as I knew with dial up I'd never be able to download enough!), so it was late 1999...

Not yet... The .ZIP link is embed on the inside set display pages (ie: http://www.fets.com/members/set.php?what=4 ) but not on the ouside set.php (ie: http://www.fets.com/set.php?what=4 )

I wanted the smoke to clear on testing & building all those back archives before we had every single vistor & indexing Bot banging away on the links.



Yes, Nicole and Emme really made this worth doing for me too... Fun to work with and obviously rewarding results.

I've been around here in some capacity or another since 1998. Feb... That's when my archives go back to. Found the site in the newsgroups, or maybe Yahoo! - not sure - and never left.

I am like the archivist, I had all the old sets, even the "missing" and "lost" sets. Emily and Nicole were both awesome, and there were many others that were great too, and of course can never forget Naomi...

Well, here's hoping to 1000 more sets...!

Now that we are at 1000 sets, maybe we should compile a best-of list - create a special promo pack to generate traffic to the site. A Fets best-of magazine...I'm just throwing out ideas...

But anyways...an amazing achievement, given the up and down nature of websites especially over the rise of dot com and the subsequent fall. I think J.D. would concurr that running the site, maintaining it...owning it...the personal challenges that make the job even more difficult than it is...has definitely not been without its challenges, yet managing to overcome each time is pretty impressive.

Yeah, we were chatting about this around here too... Its funny-- when you think of all the $100's of millions spent by so many on theories for "getting rich online"..? I'm pleased to just be still going at 12 years, 'cause that is a waste-land of broken dreams!

I've stopped kicking myself for not turning out to be a marketing genius too... I used to constantly think 'Why can't I get this thing out there?" But when I consider how few have that gift..? I'd take crazy with new ideas over being some Don Draper-esque Mad Man any day of the week.

Sometime ago, rather than be a good capitalist about FETS Inc, I steered us away from the endless decent of needing to make more profit every year (or risk becoming a bad investment and failing for that reason).

I started playing the business game not to grow & grow (eating everything including your competition, until you die a stale leviathan in a creatively dead sea) but to be foremost simply self-sustaining and maintain an ongoing debt-free virtual existance.

Given FETS' survival though both the best and worst of internet times, there is no reason we can't still be here after 20 years, and chattin' about Set #2000...

Yes, in history I found the first Rita Set in the usenet. This directed me here to this place.
Collecting more Rita, Emily, Nicole and Carmen.
Playing the main role on my screensavers for five years ...

And in real life I started modern dancing in my free time
